FINRA MILITARY SPOUSE FELLOWSHIP FOR ACCREDITED FINANCIAL COUNSELOR PROGRAM - Applications for the 2010 FINRA Foundation Military Spouse Fellowship for the Accredited Financial Counselor® Program  are being accepted March 1 – April 15, 2010 for military spouses.  Please pass this information on to friends and colleagues who may be interested in applying to be a 2010 FINRA Foundation Fellow to earn the AFC® certification.  Information about the program can be found at http://www.militaryfamily.org/get-info/support-family/spouse-employment/financial-counselor-fellowships.html.

TRANSITION ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (3-DAY TAP SEMINAR).  16-18 Mar, 0800-1630.  This 3-day workshop is for military members who are transitioning from the military.  Meet with experts from finance, VA, SC Job Services (and more) to help give you the tools you need for a successful transition into the civilian sector.  This workshop will be held at the Airman and Family Readiness Center, Bldg 500.  Call 963-4406 to sign up.

SC EMPLOYMENT SERVICE.  17 Mar, 1000-1200.  Meet with a SC job services rep who will help you in your job search and provide limited resume assistance.  Individuals seeking service must register on line and identify job leads before arriving at the Airman and Family Readiness Center, Bldg 500. This is a first-come first-serve service.  Walk-ins begin at 1000.  Call 963-4406 to register for service.

THE CAREER STATUS BONUS (CSB) REDUX.  17 Mar, 1300-1345.  If you joined the military on 1 Aug 86 or later, you must make a choice between two retirement plans between your 14 1/2 & 15 year mark in the military.  Briefing will be held at the Airman and Family Readiness Center, Bldg 600.  Call 963-4406 to reserve

TROOPS TO TEACHERS.  18 Mar, 1330-1430.  Counseling and assistance regarding certification requirements, routes to state certification, and employment leads in an effort to help eligible military & military spouses transition to a new career as public school teachers in targeted schools.  Briefing will be held at the Airman and Family Readiness Center, Bldg 500.  Call 963-4406 to sign up.

STEP PARENTING.  18 Mar, 1730-2000.  Learn  how to understand blended family issues, common complaints from adults and kids, stages of adjustment, characteristics of a successfully blended family, household rules and discipline, establishing new traditions, and things to do and not to do.  Couples only and no children, please.  A light snack provided.  Call 963.4406, A&FRC, to register.

SPECIAL NEEDS SUPPORT GROUP.  16 Mar, 1100-1200 and/or 1800-1900.  Military & family members who are enrolled in EFMP are invited to participate in a support group to discuss concerns, share ideas, and gain morale support.  For more information and to sign up, call 963-4406. 

REINTEGRATION – Every Tuesday , 0900-1000. For individuals returning from a deployment to help them reintegrate back into their family life. Briefing will be held at the Airman and Family Readiness Center, Bldg 500. Call 963-4406 to sign-up.

* Officials Announce Homeowners Assistance Program Details

Defense Department officials announced this week the details for distributing $555 million available under the Homeowners Assistance Program.

The program is part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act passed in February, and is designed to partially reimburse those whose service to the nation has required them to relocate and sell their primary residence at a loss.  Those eligible include active and former service members of the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force and Coast Guard. It also includes Defense Department and Coast Guard civilian employees and non-appropriated fund civilians.  For more information, see http://hap.usace.army.mil
