The Outdoor Recreation Center

Your first stop for family entertainment and fun! - The Outdoor Recreation Center is located in building 647. Open Monday through Friday, the Outdoor Recreation Center serves as the check-out point for equipment rentals, famcamp, the picnic area, skeet and trap range, swimming pool, RV storage lot, outdoor recreation programs and trips and tours. We are also the hotspot for guided tours and great discount trips like cruises, biking, hiking, racing, football games and a whole slew of great, outdoor fun.

Skeet & Trap Range

The base Skeet & Trap Shoot Range is open for use by all DoD ID card holders and at $3.75 a round, you get a lot of bang for your buck! Range guns and instructors are available or you can use your own shotgun, although shooters do need to bring their own shells (7-1/2 to 9 shot). Families are always welcome and reservations are not required for individuals or small groups. Don’t forget the range is a great alternative location to host a unit or organization fundraiser. The range is open Tuesdays, Saturdays and Sundays, from 1pm until dusk. For more details, please call the range at 963-6137 during these hours.

Picnic Area

Charleston AFB picnic grounds has 3 pavilions that seat 150 people each. Reservations must be made in advance and cost $60 for 1/2 pavilion, $70 whole pavilion, and $120 for both pavilions. There are four grills available, soda machines, bathrooms, water and electricity.

The Outdoor Recreation Center is part of the SC Services Project Green. If each group takes care of their own trash we can all play a role in South Carolina's fight to reduce solid waste and minimize our carbon footprint. The Picnic Grounds will look just as good for the last group of the day as it did for the first group. When you pack your picnic, pack trash bags with it and remember to separate out your cans, plastics, glass and other recyclable items.

RV Storage

The RV Storage Lot is a designated lot where authorized patrons may place their RVs and boats for storage. Eligibility is restricted to active duty, retired and DoD employees and their family members.

An administrative fee as approved by the NAF will be assessed. The monthly charge is $35. For long-term RV storage yearly advance payment is accepted.

Waiting List
Currently the wait to get your vehicle in storage is long. However, we do maintain a waiting list on a first come first served basis. Please call to get your name on the list.

Weekend Access
The ORC is closed on weekends, however, if you have forgotten your access code, emergency phone numbers are posted on the front door of the facility.

The staff of the Outdoor Recreation Center would like to sincerely thank you for choosing Joint Base Charleston. We're very proud of our facility and hope that you enjoy it. We also take great pride in our city and the Lowcountry area. If you would like some suggestions about local attractions or need directions, please ask- we love to play tour guide! Please remember the ORC has discounted tickets for many local, regional and state venues. This brochure has the guidelines for using our FAMCAMP. When in doubt, we ask that you contact a staff member or the Camp Host first before proceeding.

Reservations: We do not currently take reservations. If the Famcamp is full we can place you in an overflow area with dry camping, until a full hookup site becomes available.

Upon Arrival

Upon arrival, check in and out with the FAMCAMP host or the ORC office.
The FamCamp hosts are in sites 5 and 11.
The ORC has lots of places for you to tour in the Charleston area and they will offer fun places and things to do once a week. Ask for the monthly schedule.
Only campers over 16 ft. are permitted in the RV area • Tents & pop-ups will be in the tent area at $16 per night
Screen rooms are permitted over picnic tables. • You must clean up after your pet. All outside pets will be leashed
All extra cars, trailers, boats, etc., will be stored in the picnic ground parking lot • Please dispose of all trash in the dumpsters
Open fires, trash, clotheslines and a generally messy area is not permitted
Absolutely no dumping of black or gray water on the ground
Children under 13 years old will be accompanied by parents when using the bathrooms
Washing RV’s, campers, trailers, trucks, etc., is acceptable after purchasing a $10 usage permit
Please do not park or drive on the grass. Additional parking is available at the Bath House and front parking lot
Please display your registration receipt in the window of your RV. So it can be easily seen

Reservations

Please note: We currently don’t take reservations. If the campground is full, we can place you in an overflow area with dry camping until a full-hookup site becomes available.

Length of stay

Ashley and Cooper Area is for 1-14 night stays. After 14 nights you must renew. If we are full you will have to move out until a space becomes available. The Moultrie area is for long term camping of greater than 14 nights and less than 2 years. You will be guaranteed your spot for the dates you are requesting but you must move out on the date you state you are leaving.

Check-in is 3pm, check- out is 12pm. Check in and out with the famcamp host or the ORC.

Campground Info

Please display your registration receipt in the window of your RV. So it can be easily seen

Climbing Wall

Rock climbing is an exhilarating full-body workout that will leave you begging for more! There is nothing else that can compare. Have fun in a friendly atmosphere while getting your exercise! "The Wall" is open Monday thru Friday from 9a to 4p

Everyone is welcome to try the climbing wall during the Outdoor Recreation Center’s regular hours of operation. Walk-ins and beginners are welcome!

Belay
The ORC has auto belay. You are welcome to Boulder for FREE anytime with shoe rental when the ORC is open! Note: Climbers must weigh at least 50 lbs.

Terms & Conditions
All climbers must sign a liability waiver in order to climb. Children under eighteen years must have a signed (by parent) liability waiver. An adult must accompany children under the age of 15 years.

Rock Climbing Parties
(Ages 8 and older) 2 hours of use on the rock wall and party room. The customer provides food and beverages. The ORC will supply tables, chairs and one staff member. The cost is $8 per person (minimum 10). Special after hours and weekend use available for groups but must be scheduled in advance. Click for a downloadable Climbing Wall information sheet.
