April 17-18. Join the ORC on a trip Biltmore Estates to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the Festival of Flowers. "This year, look for tulips in French-style arrangements, a recreation of the fresh flower carpet from 1985, and notice the fleur de lis pattern—a symbol of the iris, the 25th anniversary flower—in urns, containers, and pattern beds," says a Biltmore spokesperson.

According to a popular yakism, "kayaking is a solo sport that should never be done alone." There is something very relaxing about gliding through the waterways in your kayak. Without motor, fumes or noise, kayaking can be described as self-propelled tranquility, being in the "now." Your ORC is offering kayak lessons (April 17) and one-day trips (May 23, June 27, and July 25) from 9a to 4p. The $35 per person cost for each trip includes transportation, kayak equipment, safety gear, life jackets, parking fees, and trip guides. of Historic Charleston March 20 from 9a-3p. Join us as we cross the Arthur Ravenel Bridge and tour historic Charleston on bicycles. We'll load bikes at the ORC and depart at 9am for the new Mt. Pleasant Waterfront Park. We peddle to downtown Charleston stopping at various landmarks as we cruise! Sign-up early because seats are limited! Cost is just $15 per person and includes transportation for you and your bike, parking fees and trip guide. Call us for more info.
May 7 and 8 If the sights and sounds of 43 brightly-color race cars powered by 700-plus horsepower engines being pushed around a track under the lights at more than 175 mph doesn’t raise your pulse rate, you don’t need a doctor, you need a coroner! Join the Outdoor Recreation Center as they travel to “The Lady in Black,” Darlington Raceway, for nighttime NASCAR racing at its best. The first race trip will be on May 7 for the Nationwide Series Darlington 200. The cost is $25 per person, which includes transportation and one ticket for the race. Kids 14 and under are free on this trip. This is an individual, couples and family trip. Individual ticket sales will be limited - organized groups will not be accommodated.
The following night on May 8, the ORC will make a return trip for the 2010 Southern 500. Cost for this trip is $145 per person, which includes transportation, one ticket, plus an after-race tailgate party. Slots for both trips are limited. The entire South Carolina State Park system is yours to enjoy with a Park Passport. These passports are a great way to experience all the beauty of our state. The cost is only $47.50 and entitles the owners to free and unlimited entry into all South Carolina State Parks that charge an entrance fee. Does your group or squadron need a break from its high-intensity work schedule and all of the demands that come with it? You bet they do, so why not book a local one-day group canoe trip with the Outdoor Recreation Center as a stress reliever. These excursions include all of the safety gear, canoes, roundtrip transportation, a quickie paddling lesson and even a great picnic lunch for only $35 per person. Minimum group size is 12 people. The Base Ski Shop located in the Outdoor Recreation Center is now open! We rent skis, poles, boots, ski bibs, Big Feet, Little Feet, snow blades and snowboards. The shop stocks top brand names such as Salomon, Rossignol and Burton. All equipment can be rented by the day, weekend or week. Ski tuning and waxing of personal skis are available. We have brand new for rent provided two requirements are met. First, you must pass a boaters online course with 75% . You can logon to either www.boat-ed.com or www.boatus.org for certification. The second requirement is to complete an ORC boating orientation class (bring in your boaters certificate to orientation). The ORC orientation class is about an hour long and is offered several times throughout each month and you can call for the latest class. Don't miss out on the summer fun! 963-1732 or 963-1672.
