Open Rec/Teen Program
The Open Rec/Teen Program offers a variety of activities geared to pre-teens and teens. Activities include lock-ins, dances, field trips, health and fitness activities, college and career preparation, and leadership opportunities. Visit us on Facebook for the latest happenings.
School Age Program
Joint Base Charleston School Age Programs offer care before school, after school, before and after school, and all day during school holidays, teacher in-service days and during school vacations for elementary and middle school children kindergarten through fifth grade. 4-H and Boys and Girls Clubs of America curricula The school-age program provides age-appropriate activities through 4-H Club and. Activities include field trips, building life skills, exploring creative arts, developing healthy lifestyles and various other activities. Transportation is offered at select school in the North Charleston and Goose Creek area.
Eligibility is contingent on the status of the sponsor. Eligible patrons include active-duty military personnel, DOD civilian employees paid from either appropriated funds or non-appropriated funds, Reserve Component military personnel on active duty or inactive duty training status, combat-related wounded warriors, surviving spouses of military members who died from a combat-related incident and eligible employees of DOD contractors. Joint Base Charleston Youth Programs offer a variety of organized, instructional and recreational sports programs for children and youth 4 to 12 years of age. The program is designed to help children and youth develop the fundamental skills for each sport and instill sportsmanship qualities. This program also offers a great opportunity for parents to earn volunteer hours by contributing their knowledge and skills to the program.
Interest-based Instructional Classes
Instructional classes are offered based on community interests. These classes promote the enhancement of specific skills and are taught by certified instructors. If interested in a class not currently offered, patrons are encouraged to suggest it so that youth programs can look into making it available.
Congressional Award Program
The Congressional Award challenges young Americans, ages 13 1/5 to 23, to challenge
themselves and recognizes young people who set and achieve goals in four program areas:
• Volunteer public service
• Personal development
• Physical fitness
• Expedition/exploration activities
To earn your Award, you’ll work with an adult advisor to set individual goals and plan activities to
reach those goals.
The Congressional Award is a fun and interesting way to get more involved in something you
already enjoy or something you’d like to try for the first time. You move at your own pace–on your
own or with friends.
Members of the U.S. House of Representatives and U.S. Senate recognize their constituents who
earn Bronze and Silver Congressional Award Medals at local, citywide or statewide ceremonies.
The Gold Congressional Award Ceremony is held annually in the U.S. Capitol and is presided
over by the leadership of the House and Senate. An unlimited number of Congressional Awards
may be earned throughout the country.
