Joint Base Charleston Youth Programs is open to youth ages 5-18. The program offers recreational, educational and social activities, including team sports, clinics, instructional classes and the Keystone and Torch Clubs. Youth programs is affiliated with the Boys and Girls Clubs of America, and has earned the Boys and Girls Club of America Commitment to Quality Program Award. The program also earned an Honors Award for Excellence in all five core areas from the South Carolina Boys and Girls Club Area Council.
Youth Programs offers a wide array of organized, instructional and recreational sports activities for youth to help them develop desirable physical skills and to mature emotionally and socially. The sports program provides opportunities for children to have contact with other youth, volunteer leaders, and youth program staff. It also provides opportunities for parents to socialize and to contribute to our military community, by serving as volunteers in the youth program.
Physicals are mandatory for all ages in order to participate with the Youth Sports Program. physicals must be turned in prior to participation Physicals are kept on file for one year, if your child’s physical will expire during the season they must have a new physical before the beginning of the season.
All volunteer coaches must be certified through the National Youth Sports Coaches Association (NYSCA) prior to being assigned a team. The Youth Sports Program adopts the NYSCA standards of safety and coaching etiquette. The NYSCA teaches fundamentals, basic sport skills, sportsmanship and emphasizes participation rather than winning. In addition, each coach must complete an Installation Records Check (IRC) and become certified in First Aid and CPR. All training is mandatory and will be provided prior to the beginning of the season.
A program of the National Alliance for Youth Sports, teaches children age 4 the basic motor skills necessary to play organized sports while they work one-on-one and spend quality time with their parents. The programs were developed to be informative and fun, so children and parents will have a positive first time sports experience and continue participating in sports beyond this introductory level. These are 6 week programs that meet once a week for an hour.
Soccer Shots is the national leader in youth soccer development for youth. Using creative and age-appropriate curricula and infusing each lesson plan with enthusiasm and structured activity, Soccer Shots aims to leave a lasting, positive impact on every child they serve.
Joint Base Charleston School Age Care offers programs before school, after school, before and after school, and all day during school holidays, teacher in-service days and during school vacations for elementary and middle school children, kindergarten – fifth grade. The program features structured and unstructured educational and leisure activities, including arts and crafts, games, sports, sewing and cooking activities. These activities support success in school and promotes multicultural appreciation, literacy, and community involvement.

Our program values the community’s involvement in decision making concerning overall development. Members of the Continuous Quality Improvement Team (parents, staff, counsellors, and youth) collaborate to ensure program goals are met.
Children in attendance are served well-balance and nutritious meals/snacks. The menu offers a variety of foods that include multi-cultural items and meets the US Depart of Agricultural Child and Adult Food Program standards.
The Program is accredited by the Council on Accreditation (COA), is certified by the Department of Defense and meets the highest quality of school age program standards and criteria.
The Open Recreation/Teen Program caters to 9-18 year olds. This program offers a variety of activities geared to pre-teens and teens with focus on the following elements: educational/career, life skill enrichment, social recreation, physical fitness, and character/leadership development (Keystone & Torch Club). Programs are based on 4H and Boys & Girls Clubs of America curriculum.

Power Hour Homework Assistance Program
Teen Center staff and volunteers offer homework assistance for members of the Teen Center, Monday - Thursday, 3:30-4:30pm. Staff and volunteers offer teens ages 13-17 free assistance with math, science and social studies.
The Teen Center’s Boys & Girls Club of America Keystone Club Program offers a chance for youth, ages 13-18, to develop character and leadership skills through service to the club, community, and various learning opportunities that will challenge and grow them into future leaders.
Youth Sponsorship links young people new to the area with their own youth sponsor. Your sponsor is matched to you according to gender, age, grade and interests and will help you become familiar with Joint Base Charleston and surroundings.
